Women Are The Key To The Emergence Of Next Culture

This article was inspired by the documentary film “Ancient Future - Learnings from Ladakh”, based on the eponymous book written by Helena Norberg-Hodge 25 years ago. I highly recommend that you watch this documentary. It contains some shocking revelations.

Around the world, the Western-capitalist-patriarchal empire displaces, exterminates and enslaves local indigenous cultures. Helena Norberg-Hodge points out that this is possible because there is a weak link in the local cultures that Western marketers take advantage of. The weak link is teenage boys. Western culture is designed for them: fast cars, beautiful objectified women, easy money, power, fame… Western culture is a patriarchal culture designed by uninitiated teenage boys for uninitiated teenage boys. Modern culture relies on teenage boys to undermine and take over the local cultures.

Local boys are taken away from their village homes and sent to schools in the city “to learn skills with which they can get a real job and earn money”. The money they earn, of course, is used to buy what modern culture manufactures: Rayban sunglasses, Camel cigarettes, fast cars and an apartment of their own, leaving behind the traditions of their own culture. The women and girls stay back in the village doing alone the work which the entire community used to do together. Once strong and proud, the women are left out of community life, decision-making, and their natural educational roles. What if

I said yes

To wearing a different woman’s clothes

Every day for a week

On the day I wore pink shorts

And a black and white flowery shirt

With the ruffles and Everything.

My Box hated it,

And I let it touch me

Over a shared table of food

These Gaias holding space for my tears

And my fears

And my shaky too-big thighs

While angrily rubbing the sadness from my eyes

As I let my heart speak

Out the words

That I did not feel beautiful today.

That the shape and the colors of this outer dressing

Was not letting

About this being really how I am?

... Instead of the crumbs left behind in Patriarchy

Last year I was arrived in Poland for a training after breaking up with the ‘love of my life’, distraught, lost and looking for someone or something to fix me and take away the unbearable
grief I was feeling.

What I got instead was a space where I could delve into it and just feel it and feel it and feel it.

It seemed like I would never get to the other side of it, but it was too big to numb and I just knew that the only way out was through.

This led to a year of intensive inner transformation, I was at two women of earth labs and I spent 4 months in the Women Of Earth Bridge-House in Brasil, a live-in temporary community with only women held in the context of Radical Responsibility.

I left the Patriarchy and had the experience of living in Archiarchy. After that nothing could be the same. Ever. There can be no going back now I have experienced what else is possible.
